After all that snow, I didn't expect the spring warmth and sunshine to arrive so soon. While standing at the window the other day, I noticed two small crocus buds in the garden. This morning, I saw they were fully opened and went outside to admire them. It was so beautiful outside, the three of us ended up staying out for most of the afternoon.
I managed to snap two pictures of the crocuses before Joshua handled them...with a little too much enthusiasm.
The yellow is my favorite- the brightest thing to be seen outside among the brown grass, mud, weeds and dried leaves.
Last summer, the garden remained empty...no, full. Of weeds. I wanted to plant so bad, but getting outside was an issue...and once I was outside, bending down to reach the soil was another issue. These little things help me mark my progress and put a smile on my face when I realize how far I've come in the last few months. THIS year, I can not only make it down the steps, but I can make it with Joshua. And yep...I can get down on my knees and play in the dirt!
We got home late last week, and I took some time to pull weeds and dead leaves from the nice raised beds the previous owners built. Since it was dark, I couldn't see much of what I was doing, so today I did another once-over to get the remaining debris out.
Joshua helped out wherever he saw fit.
While John was raking in the backyard, he found some more crocuses...and to my surprise, a bee! (can you see it?)
To finish off a lovely afternoon, we enjoyed our lunch on the deck.
I'm excited to try and keep up with gardens this year and build us a little oasis in the city. So far, I have a bag of freesia bulbs that I can plant in April for July blossoms.
Anyway, the sun is setting, Joshua playing with his train set and no doubt hungry for dinner, and I have a whole list of things to read tonight, so I had better get on the ball!
